There was an interesting article in a recent edition of Talent Management magazine, written by Jac Fitz-enz.
He contacted 4,000 employees in a variety of industries, and asked them nine questions about downward communication (employer to employee) within their organization.
He wanted to know which topics were of the highest interest.
The top three were:
- Job performance
- Career opportunities
- Pay and benefits
He also asked whom the employees wanted to deliver the information. Their response? Their immediate supervisors.
Fitz-enz also asked what medium was most preferred to get
this information. No surprise – the more important the message, the more the
employees wanted to hear it face to face.
Are your managers paying attention, and having the necessary conversations in the right manner?
