I must admit, I am impressed with BRODY Professional Development employees for many reasons – and I also get great feedback from our clients and trainers.
There is one thing, however, that only the internal people notice … that’s kitchen etiquette. At your company, you might call it “break room” etiquette.
If your kitchen or break room area needs some care, here are a few pointers you can discuss or post on the walls:
This is a public place, so please:
1) Wipe up after yourself …
•microwave
•toaster oven
•refrigerator spills
•counter tops, etc.
2) Do your own dishes or rotate weekly.
3) If you use up the paper or plastic supplies (towels, napkins, cups, plates, utensils, etc.) replace them, or let the person who orders supplies know you need more.
4) Get rid of any uneaten foods or delivery leftovers at least weekly – no one needs to see or smell how your leftover salad has turned brown or grown moldy.
5) If your food’s going to smell up the office, eat it at home.
6) If you take the last cup of coffee, make more, or turn the machine off and clean it.
7) If you take water from an office pitcher that filters the water, then fill it up again for the next person.
It’s a shame I have to write about this topic … it really is all about common courtesies – but there is nothing “common” about common courtesy.
