Yes, it’s Valentine’s Day tomorrow.

Instead of thinking about flowers and chocolates and — if you’re single — whether your secret Valentine may feel the same way …

Why not take a minute to think about what you love about your job/career?

Many of us take for granted that we even DO have a job. With a very high unemployment rate and new college graduates struggling to find a good “fit” for their skills, let’s take a step back to appreciate what it is about our current job situation that we love.
If you’re thinking to yourself, “Ummmmm,” and are struggling to answer with anything positive, it’s time to look in the mirror and ask some hard questions.

  • Could you benefit from an attitude adjustment?
  • Is it time to move on from your current 9 to 5?
  • Is your job just not fulfilling enough?
  • Or, maybe it’s time to speak with your manager, and volunteer for new projects and assignments.

I loved this article online on About.Com by Susan M. Heathfield regarding why you need to love your job.

What is it about what you do to earn a living that makes you smile? Impacts others in a positive way? Makes your children proud?

For me, I’ll share three things that I love about my job (yes, I know they are all similar, but true!):

1) I can truly make a difference to those I coach, train and speak to – it’s incredibly rewarding when I hear from past participants and coachees that they’ve taken my advice/guidance to heart, and made a positive change in their working environment and career – resulting in greater success.

2) As a business owner and manager of others, I am incredibly proud of my team and their accomplishments – and my role in helping them grow and be successful.

3) I value my ability to share my workplace/career philosophies about the benefits of taking calculated risks and being accountable to yourself and others with professionals from all walks of life – and having the platform via this blog and in work to do so. My chosen career path allows me to share with others, and that is very satisfying, indeed.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. I’ll send a free “mini” book from BRODY’s “Your Competitive Advantage” series to the first person from the U.S. who posts a comment here.
